Description
The 2022 “Halfway” will start at 11:30am (approximately) on Sunday 22 May 2022. Starting times will be confirmed closer to the date.
From Great Missenden to Islip through country lanes, this is a unique and beautiful 30-mile route from the heart of the Chilterns to the ancient village of Islip in Oxfordshire, the birthplace of Edward the Confessor.
Starting in Great Missenden, you will ride through the beautiful, rolling, Chiltern hills. With the woods and winding lanes behind you, the route takes the Phoenix Trail, an old railway line converted to a cycle path, across the Oxfordshire plain to Thame (with an optional bypass of the Phoenix Trail for serious cyclists). Then it’s just a short hop around the Otmoor Nature Reserve to the finish at Islip Village Hall.
Your registration fee covers administration, refreshments both en route and at the finish, and free physiotherapy for riders. Costs are subsidised by our sponsors, and the profits will benefit the two organising charities (Friends of Dr South’s School, and St Nicholas’ Church).
Some first-aid support will be available on the ride, and mechanical support will be provided en route.
Route downloads will be available to registered riders in TCX and GPX format.
This is a fundraising event, and we strongly encourage all riders to seek sponsorship, either for a charitable cause of your choice or for the two organising charities.
The Big Bike Ride welcomes those who cycle regularly as well as those looking simply for a fun family day out. There will be refreshment stops and support en route, a party atmosphere at the finish, and a commemorative gift. All riders under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
